Why...

So it is Thanksgiving, and here we sit waiting for 10 o'clock to go to Walmart. I actually said on the drive home from Thanksgiving dinner something about being off the crazy roads and at Walmart. I think it is the turkey talking. This obviously is my first posting, and one might ask one's self, why is this guy writing a blog? Simple, and depressing actually. My computer is experiencing so much lag that the games on Facebook and Pogo are taking forever to load (sometimes not at all) and starting a movie will be a waste because I have to go to work in the morning.

With that being said I actually might have found a point, and it isn't from a pair of scissors. What is with people complaining about having to work today? Seriously, I get it from both sides. I want to spend time with my family. Gotcha. We need to be open to make sure we are profitable. Check. How about the 3rd side? 9.1% unemployment rate ring a bell? People not being able to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table?

I understand the blight of the working man and woman. You want to spend time with your family. But if your company (which is usually retail or other areas of the service industry) wants to be open, and god forbid PAY YOU. Then I would say be thankful. I mean hey that is what this holiday is about right? Being thankful. You have have a job, which means an income, which means you probably aren't out on the street wondering: 1. Where is my next meal going to come from? 2. Where am I going to sleep and will I be warm?

We went to Old Navy today in Lakewood. (By the way, thank you everyone who was working there today, you guys were awesome and seemed to be in a great mood) And yes everyone there had a smile on. I bet you, like every Thanksgiving, you can go catch a movie tonight. Same with grocery stores this morning. So thank you to everyone out there who went to work. Whether begrudgingly or not and did the responsible thing by helping themselves and their families have an income to survive. I thank you.

Don't get me wrong I understand the other side and frankly I have to say this. It's Thanksgiving. Setting up petitions because you don't want your store to open at 11pm or 10pm or whatever is ridiculous. First, if you don't want to work that day ask for it off or find a job that doesn't require you to work that day. Second, if you really don't want to work please go to your supervisor, district manager, whoever is in charge and say the following "I really don't need my job but I do know of a lot of people who do need work. Please make sure that you give my hours to (insert any person who is homeless and is being helped by any number of charities such as the United Way) and I will be happy to cease my employment with your organization." Because let's be honest, if you are so up in arms that you have to work on a holiday that has no religious affiliation and is a courtesy.

I say it is non-religious because it was a sharing of food from the Native Americans with the English settlers so that the settlers would not starve. Just so we could pit tribes against themselves and eventually subject them to disease and then give them parcels of land so they can build casinos.

Sorry I got real on you but it just popped up. Well this is me signing off. Time for us to go to Blockbuster and Walmart. Wish us luck.
